I could go into a lot of detail on how I feel about this bounty thing but I think my thoughts are really simple. I am disgusted by this but at the same time, I am not surprised at all at any of the findings.
There are several illegal things that are being done with a bounty. It’s a lot of contract issues that are violated and most importantly, it’s going against the league’s attempt to promote player safety. Paying players under the table to hurt others intentionally just sounds wrong.
But I don’t think the Saints are the only team that does this — they are the only ones that got caught. When on the field, the goal for the defense to is to tackle and hurt the opposition. If their play ends up hurting a player, then that’s what happens. That’s normal in football.
I guess what disturbs people is that these players are getting paid extra to hit extra hard. Coaches telling players to tackle hard is normal. But paying them to go out and intentionally injure instead of tackle, that’s the problem
Roger Goodell should at least dock some draft picks and possibly suspend some coaches involved. But there shouldn’t be more punishment than that. It’s a sad discovery, but it’s not that unusual.

Very nice article. It’s going to be real interesting to see what the NFL does about this because I think they have the opportunity to really make their point about player safety. With regards to the bounties themselves I think it’s absolutely horrible that this is necessary in a league that is based on violence. But with that being said we know this isn’t the first and probably won’t be the last instance of the bounty program. The Saints and Gregg Williams and the rest have done a terrible thing and should be punished. It’ll be crazy to see how this affects their reputation and how this punishment as well as the public ramifications compare to that of Spygate. Also, you think you could take a look at my blog cuz I’d love to know what you have to say http://chrisross91.wordpress.com/2012/03/03/saints-bounty-scandal-overblown/
My ten cents: This is the NFL. Take the player out by delivering a clean hit, hit the shoulder not targeting the head. Why do defensive coordinators have to undermine the talent of defensive backs and safeties by putting out a bounty on teams/players? All it takes is one legal, clean hit to take the breath out of a player. Can’t players do that in Goldson or Whitner style? Taking a bounty on players shows lack of confidence in the defensive players who feel they have to injure a player in order to win. It is showing us they don’t have confidence in their defensive skills by taking an illegal hit on someone’s head or knees to take somebody out of the game. I mean, you can even deliver a jarring hit if there is no bounty. Why risk everything by putting a bounty on players when you can get the job done cleanly? Even a Special Forces sniper can get the job done cleanly. All it takes is one clean shot.
