Am I the only one who thinks it's OK for Tim Tebow to be... a person?

Tim Tebow's image has taken on a life of its own. When he speaks, thousands show up. When he gets traded, he has the kinds of press conferences that are usually reserved for Super Bowl week. None of this is news.

The Jets QB is pristine, right down to the commonly accepted thought that he is a virgin. It's kind of amazing.

Sports: Is it just a game? (Part 2)

As a sports fan and a sports writer, I have seen both sides of what sports can mean to a fan, community. I’ve seen the over the top fandom that leads people to do illogical things. But at the same time, I’ve seen how a sport can uplift a city and bring unity.

With that in mind, these past several days really showed me what exactly sports is all about. But do we get too obsessive with sports sometimes? Or do we undervalue the impact of what sports means.

This is part two of a two-part series in which I look at the sports and why we can’t just look at it as just a game.

New Era unveils new fantastic on-field NFL fitted caps

So simple, so fresh.

I’ve been critical of New Era for their OK looking on-field caps that they unveiled in April. But these new ones that they have on their Facebook page is a huge upgrade.

As you scroll through the caps, you will notice that it’s very simple. Most of them are one solid color with just the team’s logo on front. Some are two-toned but they remain simple. A couple teams like the Cowboys and Bears have alternate logos, but overall, this is a really great decision by New Era.

Also, it appears that the underbrim of the caps will also be the team’s alternate color, which adds a nice flavor to it.

What do you think about these new lids? I think I might get one now. Check them all out here.

Kim Kardashian wants a piece of RGIII and it might help his career

Kim and RGIII?

Label this under the “I’m not surprised” category. In fact, I am surprised that I am writing about this. But I find myself chuckling.

Apparently, Kim Kardashian had a moment of interest in Robert Griffin III. Jack Burditt explains what happened when Kardashian saw Griffin a few hours after the draft.

“She sat next to me while we were watching the show on the monitor and RG3 is a few seats down, and during the commercial break she starts asking me questions about him,” Burditt told Eisen. “Like, ‘Now he’s a football player, right?’ I’m like, yeah, yeah, yeah. And [Kardashian asks] ‘And he just…something big happened, right?’ And I’m like, well yeah, he just was the No. 2 overall pick tonight. [Kardashian asks] ‘And what team?’ Washington. [Kardashian asks] ‘What’s Washington?’ Redskins. She goes, ‘I don’t know much about football, but, so what’s his deal?’ And I’m thinking, you stay away from him. This is a nice young man.”

Poll: Nike campaign on Twitter gets banned. Were they unethical?

Reblogged from Ickey Shufflin':

Earlier this week in the UK, the Advertsing Standards Authority (ASA) - their equivalent of our Better Business Bureau (BBB) - banned a Nike Make It Count Twitter campaign that used the personal accounts of English Premier League players Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) and Jack Wilshere (Arsenal). According to a report by Mark Sweney in the Guardian, Nike "broke rules for not clearly telling the public their tweets were ads.”

The Bay Bridge Series returns to Oakland this weekend

That was a video I shot last year when the A’s swept the Giants. Happy times.

I wish I was back in the Bay for this series. I love going to the Coliseum during the series and just seeing all the Giants and A’s fans. Obviously in recent years, the bandwagon for the Giants has gotten out of control, but the A’s have swept the last two series in Oakland.

It’s a special moment for me. I am not a Giants fan but I don’t hate them. I just don’t care about them. I grew up in the East Bay. I was born and raised with the A’s and I love my team. I am hoping for a sweep this weekend since the A’s are on a roll.

With Friday’s game and the very lost Tim Lincecum on the mound, the A’s could be off to a great start to this series. Go A’s!

Not getting angry at LeBron James, Heat for winning the NBA title

I’m pretty sure that most of the dislike for the Miami Heat is fueled by LeBron James. And that’s a perfectly good reason. James was the ringleader of an offseason of what many fans believe seemed to be an unfair advantage to the NBA.

James had “The Decision” and that was a bad idea. Then the Heat held a celebration party when James and Chris Bosh joined with the team. Then pretty much whatever James did, it was scrutinized. He and the Heat have not been very mature recently.

I didn’t want the Heat to win for all those reasons. But I am trying to be as realistic of a basketball fan as I can and I have to give props to the Heat for what they did. (But I’ll still call them the nWo just because it’s funny to me.)

Tampa Bay Rays to wear 1979 fauxback uniforms on June 30

Only a cool manager like Joe Maddon can make this look good.

In 1979, the Tampa Bay (Devil) Rays did not exist. But on June 30, the team will wear “throwback” jerseys as if they were around during the `70s. Using the template once worn by the San Diego Padres, the Rays will wear what they think they would have worn had they been around in 1979.

It’s a pretty cool idea and I hope that it isn’t something every recent expansion team decides to do. But the Rays are a different kind of breed. This promotion fits their identity so well and if it’s a one-time thing, I am all for it.

Looking at the actual uniform, I love the orange/sun in the “Rays” name on the front. The cap font screams of some kind of 1970s juice bar sign. I don’t know about the usage of the two shades of blue, but it’s still pretty fun to look at.

Their opponent for the game, the Tigers, will actually wear throwbacks of uniforms that they actually wore.

It’s so unique, I might just even get the Rays cap just for historical fun purposes. But much like the once confusing “Turn Back the Clock” promotion, it’s only good in moderation.
