If you haven’t heard yet, the LA Dodgers traded for SS/3B Hanley Ramirez late Tuesday night. Ramirez had worn out his welcome with Miami and a new change of scenery was much needed.
This makes the Dodgers a top contender to possibly go deep into the playoffs. With the potential addition of SP Ryan Dempster, this team is looking very strong.
Ramirez had been linked to the Oakland Athletics before the trade and it was something that I thought would be a great fit. But the contract and the team chemistry was in the way and I didn’t think GM Billy Beane would have pulled the trigger.
The reason why this deal happened late Tuesday night was because of the Dodgers’ fear of losing Ramirez to the Yankees. With Alex Rodriguez breaking his hand, the Yankees were in the market for a new third baseman. The Dodgers acted quickly to make sure that the Yankees didn’t get Ramirez.
It’s a pretty solid trade for the Dodgers and I see big potential for them if Ramirez gets back to form.
