JR Smith is so stupid for using #nosandusky on Twitter

The other day, basketball player JR Smith decided to use the hashtag #nosandusky to express how he is a good person that won’t hurt kids.

Instead, he looks like a complete idiot for using child abuse as a means for jokes on Twitter. The term #nosandusky is a play on another Twitter hashtag #nohomo, indicating that whatever was said had no homosexual meaning.

So in this case, whatever Smith tweeted had no child abuse meaning. But is it right to tweet and joke about such a thing? Absolutely not. Smith is a real idiot for this and I do sometimes wonder where the intelligence is for people of the human race.

My own fantasy draft advice that helps you win or lose

I am only doing one fantasy team this year but I still think that over the past 10 years that I have done fantasy football, I’ve learned a thing or two. Here are some tips for all you fantasy geeks getting ready for the draft this week.

These suggestions are just that. I can’t guarantee victory for any of you, but hey, I’ll share what I know.

1 – QB in first round is OK and is encouraged.

If you have the opportunity to draft Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford, Cam Newton or Drew Brees in the first round, you should consider. Based off their performances last year, they should do the same this year and put you up the top in terms of individual scoring.

In the league that used to be about running backs first, now it’s more geared towards the passing game. You should still get a running back in the second round, but if you can secure an elite fantasy quarterback first, that gives you stability in one of the most important positions.

Did NBA 2K13 just leak the new Brooklyn Nets uniform?

New Nets look?

Jay-Z wanted a very simple black and white look for the Brooklyn Nets and according to this screen shot from an NBA 2K13 demo, the uniforms are exactly that.

If you squint your eyes, you’d think you’re looking at the San Antonio Spurs.

If these are the new Nets uniforms, their new set looks like something you could order off East Bay for your local sports team. No piping down either the the jersey or shorts. It doesn’t appear to be any logo on the shorts either. It’s just a simple white text on the jersey and I would assume the home whites will be the exact mirror reflection.

What do you think of this Nets design?

Oh Bartolo Colon you foolish man

It was too good to be true for an aging man to pitch so well. Now it makes sense.

If you didn’t hear, Bartolo Colon has been suspended for 50 games for testing positive for high levels of Testosterone. This comes a week after Melky Cabrera was tested for the same thing.

As an A’s fan, I am disappointed and I wonder when this started. Was it last year when he had this miraculous start to the 2011 season? Was it during his stem cell operation?

He was a great staple to the A’s rotation and a veteran presence. And despite his weight issues, appeared to not be phased by the rigorous demands of being a big league pitcher. But with this news, now it makes a lot more sense why he pitched so well.

Fortunately the A’s have a plethora of arms so Colon’s absence doesn’t hurt that much. Brandon McCarthy and Brett Anderson recently returned. Tommy Milone, Jarrod Parker both have been doing fine in the rotation too. AJ Griffin and Dan Straily both could return to the team next week. Even though the team has a lot of rookies, I think they are ready for the stretch run. It’s just unfortunate that a veteran like Colon is gone because of his foolish decision.

At least he didn’t like about it with a fake website.

NBA 2K13 demo leaks what appears to be new New York Knicks uniforms

This new Knicks design looks OK. But it could be better.

According to this video, the rumored new Knicks uniforms are true and they are boring. Boring might not be the right word, but it surely isn’t exciting.

The team is eliminating their old black trim to go along with their revamped logo. That means that gray/silver is the new third color to their logo.

As you can tell by these two screenshots from the NBA 2K13 screen shot, there’s a little too much white and the gray doesn’t feel like it belongs. The half piping along the arm feels out of place. Plus, I am not digging the new squished font at all.

The shade of blue and the usage of white reminds me of this.

I guess anything for merchandise sales…

Farewell to my theory on the Oakland A’s dot racing

Farewell classic dot racing.

The Oakland A’s have had dot racing at the Coliseum since they had a video screen. With decades of history, dot racing has been a staple in the East Bay. The dots have always been red, white and blue and sometimes they  have even done a live version.

Since I was a kid, I have enjoyed it and the entire Coliseum crowd eats it up. But on Tuesday night, dot racing changed its colors to green, white and gold. Even though the change makes sense, it saddens me because it ends a long-time theory I had been working on for many years.

A new holiday was born: A Cespedes for the rest of us!

No pole needed.

This was from Sunday’s A’s game. It’s funny, it’s clever, it’s a Seinfeld reference.

The entire weekend back was nice. Got a chance to go back to the Coliseum and watch the A’s sweep the Indians. Coming back for the anniversary of the 20-game win streak brought back memories of when I fell in love with this team.

Overall, it was just a good weekend to be back home and be with good baseball. I love this A’s team.

What clever signs have you seen in baseball — or in fact, any sporting event you’ve attended?

Going overboard with fan interaction or justified? (NSFW)

IF LINK DOESN’T WORK, TRY THIS

This happened on Sunday and apparently this “feud” has been going on for some time. This is the fan that was getting into it with Chris Perez.

Felix and Melky: The highs and lows in baseball today

I am posting this blog entry as a fan of baseball. With my background as an A’s fan, you’ll see that my perspective on things is a little different than what you might believe.

KING FELIX HOLDS COURT WITH PERFECT GAME

I am happy for Felix Hernandez. I love Venezuelan ballplayers and as an A’s fan, I know firsthand how dangerous Hernandez is. I don’t know how many Opening Days I’ve gone to and seen Felix dominate.

But think about it. This is the 23rd perfect game and the third this season. These things are supposed to be rare and yet we’ve seen three this year. Phil Humber had one and Matt Cain did it too.
