Michael Crabtree’s sexual assault case and what to make out of it

If the allegations are true, this guy is in trouble.

If you haven’t heard the news, Michael Crabtree is being questioned on a case of sexual assault. He’s complied with everyone and is with the team in Atlanta right now.

I don’t know what to make of this. The woman reportedly went to the police a few days after the incident. That sounds fishy. But at the same time, these kinds of sexual assaults are so common in this day and age with athletes that I will never rule out anything.

It’s a surprise to me though because in my years covering Crabtree, he has never come off as a guy that would do such a thing. His shy demeanor never came off to me as a very aggressive guy that would hurt a woman.

But with the recent stories of deceptions in sports with Lance Armstrong and Manti Te’o, I don’t know what to think. Nobody is exactly who we think they are.

This could be a case of a woman trying to make money off of a celebrity or Crabtree really did do something wrong. I don’t want to pass judgment early because it wouldn’t be fair. But based on my experience with him, this is a shocker that is not really a surprise.

  1. I am just tired of these incidents happening right before very important games. Pablo Sandoval, “Panda” had taken care of it long before the World Series, which gave the fans and the press time to recover and plaster headlines with “Panda hits 3 homeruns..”

But this is happening (disclosed all over in the news) just 2 days before the NFC championship, and while Crabtree exercised poor judgement by going out with a woman and ending up at the SF hotel, he could have been victimized by a false acccusation or a set up; or the woman couldn’t take rejection or didn’t want it just be a one-nighter. Maybe she is a Delilah, you know how Samson in the Bible got burned. A woman flirts wth you, you fall for it, then she pulls the hook- calling the cops and giving a story such that a sex crimes unit couldn’t ignore.

Then again, you’re right, we cannot pass judgement until investigation is complete and charges are brought and a verdict rendered.

Maybe a sign should be put up: “A Quest for 6th; exercise good judgement.”

Kyle blew it by misplaying a punt return.

Hope it’s not Crabtree blowing it by misplaying some foreplay.

If Crabtree is guilty of the accusation, then I don’t want him on the team because he is self-centered, risking the success of the NFC championship in quest for the Super Bowl.

If he is innocent and a victim of a false accusation,

If he is innocent and a victim of a false accusation, then it hurt the team unnecessarily and blemished his reputation.

If he is not guilty, Crabtree needs to keep his chin up and play his best football by staying focused and getting open in the NFC championships.

If he plays in the NFC championship and is a stone-cold liar like Lance Armstrong unwittingly was, if the 49ers win, that will cast a dark cloud on a glorious day that is supposed to be for the 49ers and their faithful fans.

I truly hope he is not guilty of any sex crime and if he is innocent, we need to pray for the accuser. This whole thing doesn’t make sense, though.

  3. Sam, can you delete the first comment as I accidentally posted the unfinished comment. The 2nd comment is complete, leave that one posted. Thanks.
