Jaguars going full black unis in 2013 and I don’t like it

Back in black?

Per new Jacksonville Jaguars Owner Shahid Khan, he announced that in 2013, the team will be the “flagship” team for Nike. The Jags will go all black in their uniform scheme and their teal jerseys will be their alternate.

That struck a real bad chord with me because as a Jaguars fan, I was really disappointed that the team moved away from their original set to what they wear now. But to make all black their new primary for 2013 sounds all bad.

Their previous look of black helmet, teal jersey and white pants was a modern classic. Then they brought in the all black look as an alternate (see above photo) and I was OK with that. At least they kept their original their primary.

When they switched to their current set, I was really disappointed because there seemed to be fewer elements of gold and aesthetically, the new uniforms look just like a mess.

With this change in 2013, this will make the Jaguars look even worse. I thought that the teal was a great part of their team history and now they are making it an alternate? Black isn’t really a color the team should be emphasizing and with a full on Darth Vader look, I just don’t think I’d like it.

Could they have the Jags wear black jerseys this season along with the white pants and then go full black next year? If teal is the alternate, would it be paired with the black pants? They won’t at least have white pants to balance it, would they?

Teal should always be the primary for the Jags color scheme and switching it to black takes away the team’s uniqueness. I don’t want to see the Jags lose an important part of their identity.
