Aside from the typos in the tweet, this struck me last night and I couldn’t really get it out of my head. Did I witness the rebirth of Oakland baseball?
I was there for all three home games this postseason and as a loyal fan of this team since I was a kid, I know what Oakland is all about. They are a passionate group that loves their teams but also doesn’t like to deal with nonsense. That explains partially why the attendance this year have been very poor. But when it’s time to represent, the crowd will come.
And that’s what got me thinking about this team. Did the improbable season of a team filled with castoffs save baseball in Oakland. Is the momentum so strong now that the idea of San Jose now seems to be pushed to the side?
I do wonder about that and I would like to believe that it at least brought back some kind of hope for this team. Unlike the teams of the early 2000s, this storybook team was way more improbable, facing tougher battles left and right. And the drama was something Hollywood couldn’t even think up.
This city is waiting for something to get them rolling with the A’s. The bad teams fielded in the past few years made it tough. The stadium is so run down that the team deserves something new. But now with this season, maybe the funk is back. The A’s matter again. They’re set for years of success with their young core. The have a manager that can lead them to victory and that’s all the city of Oakland wants. They want a chance to compete every year.
Next year the A’s are expected to be right in the middle of the playoff hunt and maybe this could be the beginning of Oakland’s attempt to keep their team. I would like to hope that it is true. But the future is uncertain and we’ll just have to see how it unfolds.
But one thing is for sure: This A’s team revived the city’s love for their team and reminded me why I love this game.
Emotionally as a fan I am filled with so many emotions from this. This season means a whole lot to me. It got me through some tough times and this team brought an excitement back that I didn’t think the team could bring back. Now looking forward to 2013, this team can definitely be a team to watch out for in the AL West.
