So that dunk contest was hard to watch. The final dunks were decent but everything else was just hard to watch.

What is the solution? How can we make this thing better?

Obviously the problem is the lack of star power. I didn’t even know who was in this dunk contest until I looked it up. There was no star power here. It would be great if we got some big name players in this contest.

But will we ever get it? Will Blake Griffin do it again? Will LeBron James try it for once?

I don’t think it will ever happen. There is too much branding and image saving to keep these players from doing this. There is no incentive for these star players to do this.

But what if they had an incentive? How about a payout or a major donation to a charity they care about? That would be something, but would the NBA step up to make it happen?

Back then, the dunk contest was a show that the players wanted to give the fans. It’s not the same now. It won’t be until there is that drive by the star players to put on the best show possible.

Now we just have to hope that there’s enough conviction from this ugly evening that will give the star players a desire to participate. It would be nice.

Will it happen? I don’t think so. There’s more reason for the star players not to participate than to put on a good show.
