Take two: Re-evaluating my stance on the Warriors sleeve jerseys

It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t that bad either. It’s still a work in progress.

I’ve been pretty harsh on the new Warriors sleeve jerseys/striped shorts since they announced it. But now after watching a thrilling game against the Spurs, I now am rethinking my stance on it.

Was I influenced by the win? Or was it not as bad as I thought it would be?

My first though was that watching on TV, from a distance, it doesn’t look bad. The fact that I have played basketball against shirts makes the sight not that unfamiliar. The contrast from a distance works. I can accept that. The Warriors wearing something like this isn’t too bad.

The problem still remains with the details up close. The striped shorts and mismatching colors really make it hard to take in. The fact that the two fabrics don’t match make this set still a very ugly uniform. It’s not as bad, but it still isn’t good.

Brace yourselves, the Warriors sleeve jersey monstrosity is happening tonight in Oakland

Ugly.

Tonight, the Warriors will debut the above uniform set against the Spurs. Children cover your eyes. Adults, cover your ears.

The problem with the uniform set isn’t so much the sleeve itself. In fact, I’ve played basketball in shirts with sleeves and they are fine. They don’t inhibit my play in any way. So sleeves for a jersey is fine. The error is that there are so many aesthetic design flaws.

From mismatching jersey and shorts, the odd choice for bridge pinstripes, and the fact the jersey looks very thin doesn’t help the cause for the uniform set. The unfortunate rec league look will have to take some getting used to as this trend is clearly going to expand next season.
