If you missed it, this was the brawl that took place between Mexico and Canada. Even though I am against these kinds of things, this was something the WBC really needed.
The interest in the WBC has not been good and it’s tough when it coincides with Spring Training. But now with this fight, there will be talk. People will watch the fight, talk about the WBC and maybe tune in.
My only issue is that the whole thing came after a misinterpretation of the rules. Scoring tallies into potential tiebreakers in the round, so there really isn’t an opportunity to “show up” your opponent. But apparently Luis Cruz didn’t get that memo and ordered for the beaning to occur.
I wish it didn’t happen. It shouldn’t have happened. But since it did, I can accept it because at least any kind of publicity is good publicity. Especially for an event that isn’t getting much attention, maybe this will help people realize the tournament exists. There’s some good that came from this bad.
