Read the above story and watch the video. I saw this live and I was confused as to what was going on.
I can’t find an excuse that justifies this mistake. Even Chris Singleton’s explanation isn’t good enough.
Sure you’re going with what your producers are telling you. But it doesn’t take more than a second to look up at the person you’re interviewing and realize that he wasn’t the star pitcher of the game. Did she not watch the game at all? More importantly, as a reporter, you have to know something about the person you’re interviewing. I think what they look like is one of the things you have to know.
I understand you’re not familiar with these players. So that means you have to work extra hard to get your facts right.
I’ve been doing live interviews with people for years now and I never ever wanted to make a mistake about a person I am interviewing. Every time I interview someone, I want to make sure I know something about them. When it came to a person I wasn’t so sure of, I would go the extra mile to make sure I got it right. I never wanted to ask a wrong question because I wasn’t prepared.
So shame on Watney for not only owning up to her mistake but trying to hide from it as if she was the victim.
