Farewell Pat Summerall — thanks for spoiling me as a young football fan

A broadcast legend.

Sad news today as the sports world had to say goodbye to the great Pat Summerall. Summerall passed away at the age of 82.

For me, Summerall was always a broadcaster. It was only very later on in my football fandom did I learn that he was a former placekicker and he was part of the Greatest Game Ever Played. That just added to his greatness for me as I grew up loving the NFL.

Summerall’s voice was so distinctive and so welcoming, I cherished the times where I would hear him call a game or even just do an opening introduction to a broadcast. Along with John Madden, those two were the greatest broadcast tag team I have ever known. I was truly lucky to have listened to them every Sunday.

The Boston Marathon tragedy reminds us that good will always triumph evil

I don’t get it. I don’t understand why someone would do this. In fact, I don’t understand any kind of violence like this.

What good does it do when you set off explosives or hurt a mass amount of people like this? I don’t get it. I don’t want to get it. I don’t want to understand what kind of sick, twisted mindset one has to be in to plan such an occurrence.

But through these kind of evil acts, I am always reminded that good will always triumph evil. No matter what kind of evil finds its way into our lives, there are way more good people that will stop it. We might suffer in the process, but we’re stronger because of it.
