Samuel Lam’s 2013 Best and Worst Dressed in sports: NFL edition

Due to the new helmet rule, the Redskins had to wear this.

Today is the final day of 2013 and I’m going to do my year in review of the best and worst uniforms of the year. Unfortunately this year there will be no college sports involved (just way too much for me to cover). Let this be a history lesson for everyone to remember what worked and what should never happen again.

This is a list of strictly my opinion, so feel free to agree or disagree or just take it for what it is.

To qualify for this list, the uniform element must be a new set that debuted and was used for in-game action in 2013. That’s pretty much it. Let’s go take a look at the list for National Football League.

** I hope I didn’t miss anything.

NFL’s Best and Worst Dressed

BEST: TENNESSEE TITANS

For the first time since moving to Tennessee, the Titans wore this combination — and they did it twice.

It has been believed that Bud Adams did not want this combo to be worn because it looked similar to what the Oilers wore. I don’t know if that is true but since his death, the Titans have worn this combination twice. It has been on my wishlist to see this combination and seeing it this year brings me joy. In fact, this season they’ve worn every possible combination except the navy on Columbia blue. Great job!

HONORABLE MENTION:
GREEN BAY PACKERS – There’s one positive about the helmet rule change is that this looks a lot better than a navy helmet.
NO MORE TOILET SEATS – This was the right thing to do.
MINNESOTA VIKINGS Aside from the numbers having some inconsistencies, well done. Even this I am OK with.
DALLAS COWBOYS – The new helmet rule gave us one great visual.
NEW YORK GIANTS White pants is what’s right. I hope they make this their full-time pants.

WORST: CLEVELAND BROWNS

Terrible turd look.

This is such a Cleveland Browns thing to do. They look terrible.

HONORABLE MENTION:
JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS & MIAMI DOLPHINS –
Two birds with one stone. The Jaguars aren’t as bad if the helmet was not two-toned. Also for the Dolphins, they really need a little more orange.
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS For the first time ever, the Chiefs went all red. It actually isn’t bad, but it really wasn’t something I want to see ever again. And look at how the socks are worn differently by everyone.

MATCHUP OF THE YEAR: TITANS VS RAMS (NOVEMBER 3)

The Rams are throwing back against two teams they beat in the playoffs en route to their Super Bowl XXXIV win during the 1999 season. Though this matchup wasn’t 100% accurate, it still looked great.
