A couple years ago I looked at the potential Hall of Fame classes for Cooperstown and realized that from 2014-2016, those three years will be filled with great classes. Today, it was announced that Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux and Frank Thomas will be this year’s enshrinees.
I expected those three to be first ballot selections and they are. As an A’s fan, seeing Thomas get in is a personal joy as he help lead the team to an impressive and fun 2006 playoff run. His joy is my joy.
Now I have to actually figure out if I am going to Cooperstown. It’s tougher now because a couple years ago, I had my summers free. But now with my job, it’s a little different. I might be able to swing a weekend off to go to New York in July. But if I do, I have to see if my friends would be interested and then I have to buy a plane ticket, get a place to stay and a rental car.
I’ve been to Cooperstown before so I know what to do and what to expect. But this is going to be better than my last trip. And if I do it this year, I have to do it next year for Randy Johnson and Pedro Martinez. And then the following year for Junior.
And Biggio missed by .2%? Wow.
