This is probably one of the worst written things I’ve seen advocating for tape delay. Not only is NBC condensing out things from other countries and all the extras, but who actually enjoys watching sporting events later in the day when we already know what happens? Let me watching something live so I can see the result unfold instead of waiting five hours already knowing that USA won and for me to see how they won. Who wants tape delay like that?
To everyone who complains about NBC’s lack of live coverage for marquee Olympic events: Be careful what you wish for. The Winter Games can get pretty boring when you’re sitting through endless figure skating routines, alpine skiing runs and curling matches.
Those edited primetime highlight shows you deplore are a blessing. Instead of wading through hours of tedious action that has no bearing on medals, then running the risk of missing the pertinent action because you went channel surfing, the tape-delayed package gives you the important stuff you need. The existence of highlights tells you that there are plenty of lowlights out there too.
Why wouldn’t you love the primetime package? Everything you love on TV is edited. You have Netflix so you can enjoy House of Cards. Yet you’d cancel your subscription in an instant if the show consisted of Kevin Spacey going through six…
