Year after year, the Sharks don’t live up to expectations. They have the talent to go far, but they fall short. The years they make it very far, they still don’t win. And even when they hold a 3-0 series lead, they fall.
The disappointment that follows this team is an annual deal and this last loss was the worst one of them all. Because of the team’s inability to win the Cup, it’s time for a change.
You can easily call for Todd McLellan to be fired. The future of Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau with the team could be gone as well. It’s time to shake the roster up and the coaching staff.
The Sharks are lucky to have so much talent on the team and make the playoffs every year. But it’s not enough. It’s never enough. Especially with the numerous missed chances, they don’t want to squander any crack in the window they may have left to be a legit Stanley Cup contender.
I didn’t think they would get far in this playoffs anyway. Had they won this first round, they would have lost to the Ducks in the next round. This embarrassing loss was what they needed. They needed to get kicked in the teeth. This now will start their road to change.
I am not sure what the changes will be but it’s time for the team to move on from this core and go in a new direction. But I know that it’s time to make the change and the time is now.
