I mentioned last night that the MLB All-Star game will feature a unique uniform appearance different from years past. Not only are teams wearing new designed caps for the Home Run Derby, it appeared that they will have specially designed caps for the actual game.
Rather than have the players wear their normal cap, the branding and merchandising department appears to have the stranglehold here. I like that at least they kept the team colors and logos here, but this is not necessary. It’s all about making the dollars.
Too bad. One thing I liked about the All-Star game was that each player wore their own team uniform. But now MLB is telling them that they all have to wear something different. And I don’t like every player on the field wearing the same template. It just looks so conformed. No other All-Star Game right now in the four major sports has their players wear their own team uniforms. Now we are slowly losing that.
Some of these caps might look good, but I prefer they never went this route. And hey, if you don’t like what you see, you can get multiple versions of it.
