Today is the final day of 2014 and after much deliberation, I’ve decided to do my annual uniform in review post. I was close to not doing this again this year because I didn’t think I had the time for it. But I have made time and there are some noteworthy uniform notes from this past year.
This is a list of strictly my opinion, so feel free to agree or disagree or just take it for what it is.
To qualify for this list, the uniform element must be a new set that debuted and was used for in-game action in 2014. That’s pretty much it. Let’s go take a look at the list for National Basketball Association.

NBA’s Best and Worst Dressed
BEST: CHARLOTTE HORNETS
The entire rebrand from the Bobcats to the Hornets was perfect. The colors are great. The uniforms are awesome. Their home court looks phenomenal. I haven’t found one thing I didn’t like about this rebrand. It could just be the nostalgia, but man oh man, doesn’t this look great?
HONORABLE MENTION:
WASHINGTON WIZARDS – For an alt that’s a little different than the counterpart with a color swap, this actually works out. Although I wish the horizontal line remained.
ATLANTA HAWKS – Adding the city name to the home uniforms was a lateral move. But it’s not really bad.
CLEVELAND CAVALIERS – In LeBron’s first game back, they bust out this alternate. We’ve seen a similar version to this before but this one was quite colorful.
TORONTO RAPTORS – This beautiful throwback.
WORST: CHRISTMAS
All of it. It’s not even a bad idea, but it was executed so poorly. Nameplate with first names? Small logos? No.
HONORABLE MENTION:
BOSTON CELTICS – Nope.
ORLANDO MAGIC – See above.
ALL-STAR GAME – Repeat.
Basically if it’s sleeved, it must go away.
GOLD TAGS – I don’t know why they moved the logo to the back and added championship gold tags. In a way, if the team never won a title, their jerseys actually look better.
MATCHUP OF THE YEAR: PELICANS VS JAZZ (DECEMBER 16)
During the Christmas season, sometimes we are blessed to have two teams wear uniforms to give us a green and red feel. This was by far my most favorite one in quite some time and the fact that the new Pelicans red unis are just OK. I don’t know why but maybe it’s because the shade of Utah’s green works so perfectly here. I love it.
