Stephen Curry Sharks bobblehead is a promotion that had to happen

The Sharks are in rebuilding mode. The excitement for this team and their run of success isn’t as high.

The Warriors on the other hand are on top of the world as champions.

So with the Bay Area love, we have the following promotion. It had to happen. The Sharks need the buzz. The Warriors right now can do no wrong. This move is no surprise. This promotion is exactly what we might be seeing more of with the Warriors and their Bay Area sports neighbors.

I want this bobblehead. It will probably cost a pretty penny on eBay.

The ‘Concussion’ movie doesn’t even look that good

You can’t really judge a movie’s potential solely on the trailer. But then again, the trailer is supposed to display the movie’s best scenes and what it has to offer.

I am sure this movie could be great and I hope it isn’t just an NFL-bashing film. But something about this trailer doesn’t really capture me. I still will plan to see it but for a very first impression, I’m not that impressed.

The A’s have too many socks and that’s a problem

Remember my post on the A’s socks earlier this year? In one game today, we saw five of them. FIVE! All on the field at the same time in the same game.

I like socks a lot. But there is no uniform in this. They are all different and it tarnishes the identity. One is enough. Let’s not have five and possibly more in the future.

My top 5 choices for the Super Bowl 50 halftime show

The NFL has not officially announced the act for Super Bowl 50. The halftime show is a very important part of the Super Bowl experience and even though we’ve had some hits (Beyonce) and misses (Black Eyed Peas) in recent years, I would like to think that for this 50th Super Bowl, the league would find an artist perfect for the occasion.

There is speculation that Carrie Underwood might be the best option and I don’t mind her at all. But her music isn’t my style. In fact, I think there are better options out there. Here are my choices (in no particular order) of who I would like to see perform at the Super Bowl.

The NHL’s partnership with Adidas could be very disastrous

When the news broke earlier this morning, I was concerned. I thought Adidas wanted out of the big four major sports. But instead, they are tapping back into a market that I didn’t think they would try to get involved in. But the more I think about it, the more it makes sense.

Adidas is leaving the NBA and they know that they still can be a powerhouse in sports. They are huge with soccer and they are very strong in the college sports world. But with hockey being at the bottom of the four major sports — plus their ownership of Reebok — taking over the NHL was an easy choice. All they had to do was beat the competition and they did just that.

So starting with the 2017-18 season, Adidas will be the king of the ice.

Quick thoughts on the new third jerseys for the Ducks, Avalanche

The Ducks have been incorporating their Mighty Ducks logo into their identity recently. In fact, it’s been a shoulder patch. But this new development is really intriguing. It’s actually not a surprise they’d use it as a crest but to see it on a really loud orange jersey. I guess it’s not too surprising really. Orange jerseys are not new to the NHL and for sure this marriage of old school and new school is very necessary now that the team has switched up their primary sets. Not bad.

The Avalanche pays homage to the Rockies before they became the devils. I’ll be honest and say that I liked their blue thirds they had before. Bringing back a new blue third makes me happy. I like the balance of color here and it’s a unique look which I think could be very popular with the fans. I know I like it!

Would a return of an NFL team to Los Angeles really work?

The more I hear about a football coming back to Los Angeles, the more skeptical I get. It’s been over two decades since Los Angeles had a team. In fact, they had two teams. But they have been trying so hard to get one back since losing the Rams and Raiders. And not surprisingly, those are the two teams (along with the Chargers) that appear to be candidates for a move to Los Angeles.

One problem I have always wondered was where they would play. You can’t get the team to play at the Coliseum again, so you have to build a new stadium. Can they get the land and voter approval? What about finances?

There are a lot of things that go into securing a location for a new team. There is a proposal going on tomorrow and the new stadium looks very advanced. Of course, these are ideas for now and I doubt we will see a team in Los Angeles at least for a few years. With cities trying to retain their team, this ongoing battle will go on for a while I believe. Los Angeles is a great big city but has failed in keeping two teams. They might have a better chance at doing it this time, but will everything align for them to even be in serious contention to get a team?

Hoping for hope for Aldon Smith as he tries to get things together

I remember seeing Aldon Smith for the first time. It was at his introductory press conference and he was meeting the Bay Area media for the first time. Some people didn’t think that Smith was the right pick for the 49ers and so there was a curiosity to what Smith would bring to the team. Smith, with all his physical skills, ended up being a very solid pick by the 49ers. In the very short time in the league, he established himself as one of the best pass rushers in the game.

The 49ers were proud of Smith and the fact that, in a way, proved doubters wrong. They wanted the best for Smith. They wanted Smith to be a great success story.

They held onto Aldon after his first off-field incident. Then the second. Then the third. Even through last year’s ordeal, they kept holding on to him. They could have handled it differently, but the message was clear: the 49ers were not giving up on him. Sure, there was a lot of emotional attachments and some selfishness in it — but the 49ers did not want to lose Smith. It seemed like he was turning the page and getting things right. But it wasn’t to be. Finally after the fifth strike, he was out.

Why I pick Pedro Martinez over Madison Bumgarner for greatest postseason relief appearance

Who had the greatest relief appearance in postseason history: Pedro Martinez or Madison Bumgarner?

When Madison Bumgarner shut the door on the Kansas City Royals in Game 7 of the World Series, I called it one of the most brilliant baseball moves and performances of all time. Bumgarner’s entire postseason as a whole may be the best ever.

And with Pedro Martinez’s recent induction in the Hall of Fame, I got a chance to relive his career and watch his relief performance in the 1999 ALDS — a performance that could have cost him his career. It was the cherry on top to one of the greatest pitching seasons of all time.

Since then I have debated which relief performance was more impressive. Which would be the greatest of all time. I ended up with the conclusion that they are 1A and 1B — but Martinez’s performance being 1A. I posed this question on Twitter and had a healthy debate as why Bumgarner’s appearance should be higher. I will now defend my stance.
