Samuel Lam’s 2015 Best and Worst Dressed in Sports: NFL edition

Terrible on all levels.

As the 2015 calendar year comes to an end, I’ve put together my annual list of the best and worst dressed teams in sports.

This is a list of strictly my opinion, so feel free to agree or disagree or just take it for what it is.

To qualify for this list, the uniform element must be a new set that debuted and was used for in-game action in 2015. That’s pretty much it. Let’s go take a look at the list for the National Football League.

I just saw ‘Concussion’ and it attempts to make the NFL look like the bad guys

I came into this film thinking that it will shed new light on the concussion situation but it really was not much new information to me. But of course, I am a football fan so I am very aware of what goes on with the league. In fact, I feel that this was more of a movie that showcased Dr. Bennet Omalu.

For those who may not know much about the NFL and the concussion case, this is a good starting point in getting the basics in. They talk about some notable suicide cases by former players and how Omalu was able to study their brains and discover traits of CTE. Then the movie starts getting into Omalu’s faith and his relationship with his wife.

This movie became more of a triumph story for Omalu then a revealing movie about the NFL and its negligence. It seemed to me that they wanted to make the league look like the bad guys, but they instead made the focus on Omalu instead of the problem itself. I am not sure how much the NFL had in the hand in directing the movie’s theme, but it was clear that there was a lot of potential that was left out of the film.

Still, it’s a good film for any football fan. Sure, the movie focuses more on Omalu’s triumph in his discoveries, it still shows that the NFL was willing to turn the other way for the longest time. The NFL is pretty lucky that this film didn’t make them look worse than they could. But they can no longer ignore the seriousness of CTE and head trauma.

Mark Jackson tries to clarify his quote on Stephen Curry ‘hurting the game’

Last night many media outlets picked up on a quote by Mark Jackson during his broadcast covering the Warriors. For the most part, the quote was a little shocking, claiming that Stephen Curry is “hurting the game” of basketball.

He claims in his tweet that the media is getting the quotes wrong. (And if you listen to him during the broadcast, he really sounded like a salty man who is still bitter over the Warriors letting him go.)

But all I have read on his quote covered the entire statement he made. The media did no misquote him. He just doesn’t realize that he is wrong.

Merry Christmas to you!

Have a Merry Christmas!

Here’s my problem with the Ravens’ gold pants

If you didn’t catch it, the Baltimore Ravens out of nowhere decided to wear gold pants.

They have never worn anything like this before. This is a first in team history and they looked terrible in it.

Gold is a small accent to their identity. It is just a trim on their uniform numbers and makes a small appearance in their logo. It’s not an secondary color. It doesn’t deserve to be a feature color like this.

But the Ravens busted it out and it looks terrible. Nothing about it is great. I hope they don’t wear it again.

I went to see the ‘Seinfeld’ apartment and it was real and it was spectacular!

I am a huge Seinfeld fan. Everyone knows that! When I found out they were going to recreate the apartment out in Hollywood, I had to go there. I planned to go today because it was the only free time I had. The wait of course would be long for this free event but I didn’t care. I had to go. I wanted to see what all the buzz was about. And let me tell you, it was worth it!

The exhibit was to open at 10AM but I knew that with the popularity of the show with its revival with Hulu, I had to get there somewhat early. I got in line at around 9:15AM. It would take me about 90 minutes in line before I could get in. By noon time, the line was a four-hour wait.

As I walked in, I was greeted by a ton of famous quotes from the show. True fans would recognize each and every one of them. In front was the booth from Monk’s on display.

49ers are going throwback for Sunday’s game against the Bengals — will that include old school uniforms?

Kickin' it old school this weekend. #49ers

A photo posted by Levi's Stadium (@levisstadium) on

As part of the NFL’s 50th Super Bowl in February, the league has celebrated it by making its logo gold. They’ve also had all teams paint the 50-yard marker gold. Before the season started, the league emphasized certain regular season matchups that so happen to be Super Bowl rematches.

On Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers are set to face the Cincinnati Bengals. The 49ers faced the Bengals in Super Bowl XVI and Super Bowl XXIII, winning both games. To celebrate their Super Bowl triumph, the 49ers are transforming their field to mimic the field design they had during their glory years at Candlestick Park.

The question now is whether or not the 49ers will go with a throwback uniform to go with the occasion.
