Remember Bobby Abreu? He dominated the Home Run Derby and disappeared forever afterward.
Well, not really, but it drained him real bad. That’s my fear with Yoenis Cespedes at the home run derby this year. I know he’s going to put on a show. I’ve seen his batting practices. It’s amazing.
But with a guy who’s battled injuries since joining the A’s, the last thing he needs is strenuous activity during some time to rest. I don’t want him to come back for the second half exhausted. That’s my only fear.
But then again, I could be wrong and he puts on a show, the AL dominates with ease, and he finds his groove. I’m probably over-thinking it. We’ll see how it goes.
