Both the Miami Dolphins and the Jacksonville Jaguars unveiled new changes to their uniforms today. Both were expected announcements, with the both teams going back to their traditional looks for the upgrade.
For the Dolphins, their new uniform made a simple change: more orange, less blue. In fact, the blue was removed all together (except for the logo) and the brighter orange is much more pronounced on the helmet stripe and number trim.
It’s time for the playoffs once again! Here are my quick predictions on today’s games.
The Dolphins pass rush is their only hope.
DOLPHINS (6) VS STEELERS (3)
This is going to be a tough game for the Dolphins. The team is good but they are without their quarterback Ryan Tannehill, meaning that Matt Moore has to be able to match the Steelers offensive. Jay Ajayi has been tremendous all year long and the Dolphins need him to help the offensive get going in order to match up with the Steelers. But maybe we shouldn’t look past the Dolphins, who have won nine of their last 11 games and beat the Steelers by 15 points in Week 6. Their pass rush remains strong and that will be a huge challenge for the Steelers. Keep an eye out for Kenny Stills to be the top receiver for the Dolphins’ attack.
Ben Roethlisberger is poised to have a tremendous game. He has played well this year and the running game of Le’Veon Bell and DeAngelo Williams will provide the Steelers a great ground and pound game. Additionally, Antonio Brown will continue to be dangerous in the open field for Pittsburgh. The Steelers aren’t a huge defensive juggernaut as they were in years past but they still can challenge any opposition and that is what they hope to do against the Dolphins. The Steelers are home and riding a seven-game winning streak.
Dolphins have confirmed this uniform combination for Thursday night.
The Miami Dolphins, for the longest time, have a very unique uniform system. For home day games, they wear all white. Even when they tell fans to wear aqua for their “Aqua Out” game, the team still wore white because it was a day game. But for night games, they always wear their aqua jerseys. That’s a welcomed site because I think their aqua jerseys are nice.
This Monday night, they’re going to pair the jersey with aqua pants. This is the first time they’ve worn an all-aqua look in almost a decade. Overall, they are 2-1 when going with the all-aqua look. This new combination looks promising.
But here’s my thing about the Dolphins identity. I love their all-white look. In fact, I am a fan of teams who wear all-white. There’s something about a clean uniform like that that really gets my attention. With the popping colors of aqua and orange, the Dolphins pull it off nicely. The fact that they wear it for day games (to combat the heat) is a fine system. Unfortunately, because they haven’t been good for so long, seven of their eight home games are always day games.
If the Dolphins were a better team, maybe I wouldn’t complain as much. But their all-white is too much and because of that, I openly welcome the all-aqua just for a change of pace. I hope that the Dolphins get better and wear their aqua jerseys more often. I am not calling for the mono-aqua to be a more frequent thing, but I’ll take it now because of what we’ve seen lately.
Free agent tackle Branden Albert just signed a multi-year deal with the Dolphins. With his excitement, he tweeted this.
As noted by people on Twitter, that is the old Dolphins logo. Albert took notice and updated his tweet with a new photo of the Dolphins logo.
But sadly, he still got it wrong.
Ted Wells has released his report on the Miami Dolphins scandal. You can get all the details in the above tweet with links.
I will keep my thoughts on it short.
Like I had said before, both sides are at fault and I still see it after this report. Richie Incognito, along with the other people, need to know what kind of language they are using and how it can be offensive. There are certain things you can and cannot say and even though you think it’s OK, you know anything that crosses the line doesn’t translate to everyone.
Jonathan Martin didn’t do much or enough to stop it or even tell people he needed help. Instead he hid it and ran away. That doesn’t solve any issue at all.
Ultimately, the instigator will get the brunt of the punishment but Martin didn’t do anything to help prevent the ongoing verbal assaults. This isn’t a surprise in the locker room culture that I’ve seen in the NFL. Jokes happen all the time and sometimes they go too far. Certain people know the limits and some don’t. This is the case of that and it’s sad it has come to this.
The drama that is the Jonathan Martin-Richie Incognito saga has not ended yet, but it appears that it might be getting somewhere closer to its finality. Incognito is done of the year and Martin has been away for some time.
And it’s a shame that this even happened at all. This is a reminder that has been repeated over and over again. The macho lifestyle of the NFL has turned certain players into what they shouldn’t be. They feel that they must maintain an image, their masculinity to an extent. Some handle it well, some don’t.
This isn’t to excuse either Martin or Incognito. Assuming what we know so far is true, both are in the wrong. But how much of this case can be attributed to everyone else outside the two?
NSFW if you don’t like profanity in music.
In Eminem’s new album ‘Marshall Mathers LP 2,’ he has a few sports references. I picked up the album today was blown away by this line in the song “Legacy.”
Me against the world so what? I’m Brian Dawkins
Versus the whole 0 and 16 Lions offense
So bring on the Giants Falcons and Miami Dolphins
It’s the body bag game b**** I’m supplying coffins
Click the links for each line to see how Rap Genius breaks down the lyrics. They’re pretty good.
What surprises me about this is that this actually happened. Most times ribbing in the locker room happens and it passes by, but for the first time since I can remember, the ribbing and joking caused someone to lose it.
What’s surprising about Friday’s development in Jonathan Martin’s case is that he said that he’s OK and that the teammates making the jokes aren’t to blame.
“Yeah, I’m good man. It’s insane bro, but just know I don’t blame you guys at all. It’s just the culture around football, and the locker room got to me a little.”
Remember this weekend when Colin Kaepernick’s Dolphins cap made the buzz? Cap, hat and fashion provider Lids had a message for Kaepernick.
Lids is one of my favorite places to get my caps. They have been good to me since I first went there. The fact they would make such a tweet to Kaepernick just cracks me up. The trolling to 49ers fans with it is hilarious. And who knows? Maybe this could be the beginning of a good business partnership?
It points back to the point that this isn’t serious and it’s all in fun. People don’t need to overreact to things like this.
Lids is having fun. Kaepernick isn’t making a big deal out of it. No news becomes news. Football season is almost here.
During this week, there were pictures of 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick wearing a Miami Dolphins snapback cap. This caused a stir among some 49ers fans, some of them confused and demanded repercussions or something ridiculous like that.
Because of that, Kaepernick went to his Instagram to address the fans.
“This the hat y’all mad at? I’m goin wear what I want regardless of what you think, all you need to worry about is the fact that I grind for my teammates and the 49ers! I plan on doin this until they won’t let me in the building! #ridiculous #y’allmustbebored”
