Blackhawks beat the Bruins for the Stanley Cup in a fantastic finish

The Blackhawks are champions again!

The Blackhawks are champions again!

How crazy was that? Both goalies were pulled at some point in the final minutes. The Blackhawks, down 1-0 scored two goals in 17 seconds, take the lead and fend off the Bruins to win the Stanley Cup for the second time in four years.

This was one of the best Stanley Cup Playoffs I’ve seen in a long time. And to end it with a great final series where we see this kind of ending, amazing! The first game went into three overtimes. We’ve had outstanding play from both sides and the aura of the Original Six truly made this series a great one.

With the realignment, we have a lesser chance of an Original Six matchup again.

I’m going to cherish this series. Despite my team not being in it, this was the kind of run throughout the entire playoffs that really made hockey big again in America. And maybe, the game gained some new fans from this. Lockout or no lockout, we had a fun season.

No matter how this Stanley Cup Final ends, this was one of the best playoffs ever

After watching Game 5, it dawned on me again at how wonderful this playoff run has been for the entire league. I don’t know if it’s a product of the lockout with players playing with more energy, but we have some memorable moments in the playoffs.

I can’t remember a crazier comeback than what we saw what the Bruins did the the Maple Leafs in Game 7 of the first round. That’s the kind of stuff that can propel or haunt a franchise.

The Sharks and Kings gave us the most evenly matched matchup in the playoffs. Both went to lengths to outduel each other and getting to Game 7 (I was there) was amazing. Unfortunately the Sharks lost, but it was a great series.

The Cup Final has been great too. Overtimes (especially the triple overtime in Game 1) gave us an instant classic. The entire series has been a joy to watch and for any newcomers to hockey, the playoffs this year has given them every reason to love and follow this sport. I am just happy to have watched and have been a part of this run. It’s been just so fun!

Did last night’s Stanley Cup Final Game 1 boost the NHL’s popularity?

The NHL has to be riding on a major high right now. Despite the shortened season, the playoffs gave us great games beyond belief. Starting from the Leafs collapsing in Game 7 to a well-played Sharks-Kings series, the NHL has given us fans something to celebrate.

And maybe those games caught the attention of non-hockey fans. And if that wasn’t enough, last night’s Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final had to have done something.

Ratings are one indicator of interest and it looked real good from last night. And it looks like the NHL is on the right track in getting a bigger audience. After all, since commercials are not allowed during overtime, the audience could not walk away for a second and risk missing the game-winner. That’s compelling. And maybe that’s what the audience in America needed to get into hockey.
