MLB unveils new specialty uniforms and I don’t like any of them

This is some deep-level “get off my lawn” talk from me right now. Major League Baseball wants to commemorate all special events with new uniforms. With that money cash grab attempt (with some proceeds going to charity), we have these new uniforms for this season. Chris Creamer from SportsLogos.net has a great recap of everything.

I’ll give my thoughts on each design individually. I don’t dig the new looks.

NFL’s #ColorRush is coming and it’s a good idea executed poorly

The rumor during the offseason was that the NFL wanted some color vs. color uniform matchups during Thursday Night Football. It wasn’t clear whether or not teams would wear new uniforms for this occasion or just have teams wear what they have in their rotation.

During a commercial on Thursday Night Football, we got our answer. Check out the above video.

The idea is either to help merchandise sales or make Thursday Night Football seem like a special event. Either way, it doesn’t need to happen but it’s here. Color vs. color is nice and I want to see more if it in the NFL. But their approach to this isn’t the best.

Let’s break each matchup down in the order these games will be played.

Wizards’ ‘Baltimore Pride’ uniforms are a complete mess

I am all for throwbacks. I am all for uniforms that take some throwback elements. But the Wizards’ “Baltimore Pride” uniforms are juts a complete mess.

The first issue presented are the sleeves. Once again, sleeves don’t need to exist.

Secondly, the use of the Wizards’ colors instead of the old Baltimore Bullets colors make it a really odd design. Of course the Wizards are promoting their own brand, so the use of their current colors make sense.

But the biggest issue are the logos. If this is a “Baltimore Pride” uniform, then why does the uniform feature logos that feature the Washington Monument and the “DC” wordmark? That’s not Baltimore at all. The only thing Baltimore is the borrowed design template.

Of course, this pride attempt is just another cash grab at people’s heartstrings. What a messy attempt to make something meaningful.

Warriors unveil completely unnecessary slate gray alternate uniform

New Warriors alternate uniforms.

I knew this was coming. I didn’t want it to happen. But here we are.

The NBA and Adidas, for the third straight season, have given the Warriors a new alternate uniform to wear. This one was expected as the team’s style guide revealed several of their logos recolored in slate gray. It was an indication that a new uniform would be on its way.

The initial reaction is “why?” The Warriors have vibrant colors of royal and gold. It’s a great identity and to murk it up with gray doesn’t work for me. It’s drab and doesn’t match their current identity.

I don’t know if they are trying to look like the Nets but calling these the #WarriorsSlate in an attempt to make it like some secret spy uniform is pretty silly. Slate gray is just not working for me. Check out more photos of the new set.

Memorial Day means confusion to what it means for Blue Jays

Blue Jays celebrated America’s Memorial Day by wearing their Canadian camouflage.

During American holidays, all of Major League Baseball is decked out in special uniforms. Whether it’s the caps or jerseys (sometimes both), the teams will wear either a flag patch or a camouflage design. But on Memorial Day yesterday, it was a little strange.

Since it’s an American holiday, it would have been odd for the Blue Jays to participate in the uniform changeup. But it had been promoted that the Jays would take part of it.

But when the day arrived, the Jays did not wear that cap. Instead they used the Canadian (CADPAT) camouflage design instead. As you can see in the above photo, it’s green and completely different than what the rest of the league was wearing.
