The Tampa Bay Buccaneers unveiled their new helmet, their first helmet design change since 1997. Here are the differences.
Here are the changes and additions.
The logo is simplified with new skull. The swords and football is still there, but it just seems like a change that wasn’t necessary. Flag is still tattered. The original logo was just fine as is. I do not like the absence of red from the handle of the sword.
The wordmark is not good to me. Their original one was nice and this simplified version takes away the aggression of the identity.
This is already a major downgrade. I’ve have praised the team for having one of the best helmets ever in NFL history. The pewter along with the orange and red is a great color scheme and their uniform as a whole is a modern classic.
For the first time since 1997, the Buccaneers are making a uniform change.
This was something I saw this morning and I don’t know if this is new or relatively old or whatnot. But it is a pretty unique development.
For the longest time, visors in the NFL have either been clear or tinted. But never have I seen a visor designed where you can see the logo on it.
I always thought in terms of branding that there were limitations on how a player can equip their helmet. However, since the design is the team logo, then it would be OK, right?
I haven’t seen this yet on the field. If I had missed it, I’m pretty shocked I did. Would more teams adapt this look or is too much of a distraction? I think it looks pretty cool but I think it might be too much of a visual distraction.
Last night I started to think about the best helmets in NFL history. It was something that I decided to make a list of right here just because why not? The NFL helmet is the identity of the team. I remember the old Monday Night Football intros where both helmets crash into each other. That’s priceless.
So with that in mind, I’ve decided to create my own personal list of the Top 10 helmets in NFL history that I think stand the test of time. Feel free to disagree with me here.
Before I begin, here are some basic criteria that I used to determine which helmets should be on the list.
