Never forget the 49ers helmet that almost was but never became

The 49ers reminded us on Twitter about the helmet they almost decided to adopt into their uniform. Fortunately, they decided to not go with it.

It is featured as one of my rotating banners atop this page.

It’s a part of history that I thought we could forget. But not the 49ers. They had to bring back up one last time.

May we never forget.

May we never forget.

Buccaneers unveil new and enhanced logo and helmet

New Buccaneers logo.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers unveiled their new helmet, their first helmet design change since 1997. Here are the differences.

Here are the changes and additions.

  • The logo is simplified with new skull. The swords and football is still there, but it just seems like a change that wasn’t necessary. Flag is still tattered. The original logo was just fine as is. I do not like the absence of red from the handle of the sword.
  • The wordmark is not good to me. Their original one was nice and this simplified version takes away the aggression of the identity.

Why is the logo that big?

Buccaneers confirm new helmet and logo coming

Our speculation yesterday is now a reality. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are getting a new logo with a new helmet. The tweets didn’t confirm if a new uniform is coming, but judging by the big sale yesterday and this tweet, I think that’s happening as well. The unveiling will take place on NFL Network on Thursday by Warren Sapp and Gerald McCoy.

This is already a major downgrade. I’ve have praised the team for having one of the best helmets ever in NFL history. The pewter along with the orange and red is a great color scheme and their uniform as a whole is a modern classic.

For the first time since 1997, the Buccaneers are making a uniform change.

Is this the new way visors will look in the NFL?

https://twitter.com/Uniformswag/status/406449763244969984

This was something I saw this morning and I don’t know if this is new or relatively old or whatnot. But it is a pretty unique development.

For the longest time, visors in the NFL have either been clear or tinted. But never have I seen a visor designed where you can see the logo on it.

I always thought in terms of branding that there were limitations on how a player can equip their helmet. However, since the design is the team logo, then it would be OK, right?

I haven’t seen this yet on the field. If I had missed it, I’m pretty shocked I did. Would more teams adapt this look or is too much of a distraction? I think it looks pretty cool but I think it might be too much of a visual distraction.

My Top 10 best NFL helmets of all time

Last night I started to think about the best helmets in NFL history. It was something that I decided to make a list of right here just because why not? The NFL helmet is the identity of the team. I remember the old Monday Night Football intros where both helmets crash into each other. That’s priceless.

So with that in mind, I’ve decided to create my own personal list of the Top 10 helmets in NFL history that I think stand the test of time. Feel free to disagree with me here.

Before I begin, here are some basic criteria that I used to determine which helmets should be on the list.
