The new Dallas Mavericks alternate jerseys look terrible

Remember when Mark Cuban had a design contest for new uniforms? Those new uniforms were unveiled today. The dark blue ones will be worn in the 2015-16 season and the other ones might be worn in the following season.

I don’t mind the skyline, but it looks so boring. The font is uninspiring, the colors are still drab and I don’t think adding more blue to an identity is great. A gray set might have worked.

This just shows that the creativity (or Cuban’s taste) are very poor. The lime green alt looks even worse. What was Cuban thinking? These are just bad.

Mark Cuban has bad taste in uniform design and here’s proof

Remember when Mark Cuban opened up this uniform design contest and it got me all riled up because he was devaluing his fanbase? It looks like he has made his decision on what the final 10 designs will be and it’s up to us to vote for the winner.

And the biggest problem with these designs? They all suck.

We have some with just logos slapped onto the front. We have a couple that are ripoffs from old Sonics and Nuggets jerseys.  And some that just are too cluttered.

I have no idea what Cuban is thinking and having these as the potential alternate for the Mavericks is really sad. Could these even be marketable? Would any of these be easy to reproduce?

What initially was a bad idea has now gotten worse. This is not going to end well.

Mark Cuban is funding scientific studies on flopping

This has got to be a joke, right? Well, it’s Mark Cuban so we are not ruling out anything.

Flopping has taken a major attention in the NBA recently and we have seen a lot of flops from so many players. To find out the root of flopping scientifically is probably something that’s so weird, I am curious to what they find.

After all, flopping is contagious. Even if it doesn’t happen, it’s still there.

Mark Cuban’s uniform contest and devaluing the value of his team’s fanbase

Mark Cuban may be one of the smartest owners in sports, but his latest move has gotten some fans questioning his morals.

If you haven’t heard the story, Mark Cuban is sourcing the Mavericks fans for ideas on a new uniform design. This isn’t uncommon in sports and it’s a pretty great way to get the fans involved. The only problem with this promotion is that Cuban isn’t giving much of a compensation for the design that ends up being chosen.

Here are his rules for the contest.

Who will own your design ? The minute you post it, the Mavs will. If you think its horrible that the Mavs own your design. Do not post. If you think its cool that the Mavs could possibly use your design and you will have eternal bragging rights , then post away. If we really like your design and you , I may even throw in some tickets. If we don’t use your design, it will still be here on this site for now and ever more for you to glance longingly at. If your design is close , if not identical to other designs and we pick one of the other designs, for whatever reason, then thats just the way it goes.

The easy argument is that if you submit the design, you know what you’re getting into. And I agree with that. Designers struggle to get recognized in the business and they have to pick and choose their opportunities. Despite the chance to design an international brand, the lack of compensation might not be worth the time and effort.

Help The Mavs Design Our Next Uniform !

Is Mark Cuban serious about this? He let P. Diddy design his team’s uniforms once. Now it’s in the hands of the fans with no real financial compensation? I don’t know about this…

blog maverick

The Mavs are going to re-do our uniforms for the 2015-16 season… if we get a unique and original design. What’s the best way to come up with creative ideas ? You ask for them. So we are going to crowd source the design and colors of our uniforms.

You know what an NBA uniform looks like. You know what the Mavs colors are for today and the past.  We want some new ideas that stay true to our logo and at least close to our current color schemes. Show us what you got !

How do you participate ? You post your ideas/pictures/graphics/videos/photos directly on this blog.  Yes we want every one to see them.  Steve Jobs said “everything is a remix” . Uniforms probably more so than even technology. So we want every post to inspire other ideas and posts.

Who will own your design ? The minute…
