Watching this clip, I noticed that Khris Davis is wearing some interesting socks. They don’t match any of the socks the team has worn in the recent past.
It looks like socks are all green with a stripe design at the calf, with the team logo around the ankle. I tried to get a decent screen shot of it.
Remember my post on the A’s socks earlier this year? In one game today, we saw five of them. FIVE! All on the field at the same time in the same game.
I like socks a lot. But there is no uniform in this. They are all different and it tarnishes the identity. One is enough. Let’s not have five and possibly more in the future.
Sonny Gray during the final game of the 2014 regular season.
The MLB world was talking about Sonny Gray’s socks in the Oakland A’s season opener on Monday. And for good reason. Gray, who recently started wearing his pant legs up, revealed the standard green socks we expected to see.
So it came to no surprise that when Gray went to the mound on Monday, he would rock the high socks again. But the surprise to many people was that he wore socks that had stripes on them. People thought they looked amazing.
The first thing I noticed when I saw this photo was the hosiery.
On of the great things about the NFL is that there is a lot of room for creativity. Even if you don’t like what the new NFL uniforms have given us, we can all agree that the designs are creative. But as we have seen over the years, there is one element of the design that appears to be fading away. And it’s a shame too because it is a distinct part of the NFL’s history.
Whatever happened to stripes on socks?
In today’s NFL, the design of socks, for the most part is pretty boring. Teams usually stick with one solid color and leave it at that. In fact, teams that used to have stripes on their socks have since opted to go with a solid color. Even teams that haven’t made any major changes to their team uniform design have opted to go with the solid sock.
So what’s the future look like for the NFL? As the Rams and Browns are expected to make uniform changes for next season, could they continue the trend? Let’s take a look at the current state of the NFL’s hosiery situation.
