We had known for a while what the color scheme for the Panthers-Cowboys matchup for their #ColorRush game. The NFL made it official with both teams announcing and revealing their looks.
We got a sneak of it last week. Now we’ve seen the first matchup. Gross.
I mean, look at this Gumby uniform! Don’t try to mask your shame with the chrome helmets.
The rumor during the offseason was that the NFL wanted some color vs. color uniform matchups during Thursday Night Football. It wasn’t clear whether or not teams would wear new uniforms for this occasion or just have teams wear what they have in their rotation.
During a commercial on Thursday Night Football, we got our answer. Check out the above video.
The idea is either to help merchandise sales or make Thursday Night Football seem like a special event. Either way, it doesn’t need to happen but it’s here. Color vs. color is nice and I want to see more if it in the NFL. But their approach to this isn’t the best.
Let’s break each matchup down in the order these games will be played.
So let me get this straight. Either Nike or the NFL thinks this is a good idea. Good enough for a proposal?
Essentially, they’re going to treat Thursday Night Football like some extravagant gala that requires both teams to wear nice new uniforms for this one event only. They’re treating Thursday Night Football as something bigger than it is.
And of course, this will lead to discussion and boost up merchandise sales, right?
The league doesn’t need this. This doesn’t need to happen. There doesn’t need to be flashy new uniforms just for one game to boost merchandise sales.
What a messy situation. CBS pulled Rihanna last week as the league was going through the Ray Rice controversy. She didn’t like it and now CBS won’t use her at all.
