I remember intently following all the news during the free agency period in 2011. That was that short window following the end of the lockout where all team were scrambling trying to build their rosters in the middle of training camp.
The times were crazy and I would remember going to sleep late at night making sure nothing happened while I was away. Then I would wake up at around 5AM the following morning and being back on the grind, making sure I had all the information I needed.
With the flurry of news coming in left and right that offseason, it was one crazy time. Players were flying all over the place. They were signing with new teams. It was one hectic ride.
Last year’s period wasn’t as intense but still built the same kind of traffic. Lots of nights where I got little to no sleep. There was just so much analyzing of moves and the players still available. Every day there would be news of movement and that just led to more speculation and wondering.
It’s that way every year. It’s not just a two-day ordeal, but it can leak into weeks and who knows what else can happen?
The NFL truly is a league that never sleeps. It goes on 24/7/365. That’s why we love it. We want more, we get more, and we can’t have enough.
