Ric Flair’s heel turn in which he cheers for 49ers over hometown Panthers

Wrestling legend Ric Flair was asked to give the 49ers a pep talk prior to their playoff game against the Packers. It must have worked because the 49ers won the game and even celebrated in the locker room shouting out Flair’s infamous “WOOOOO!!!” chant.

The rallying cry must have inspired the team and Flair himself offered his congratulations on Twitter.

But did Flair make a mistake by cheering on the 49ers? After all, he is a Charlotte native and the Panthers are the 49ers’ next opponent.

Flair has had many ties to the Panthers. A video of him played during Panthers home games and the team wanted to bring it back. He’s tweeted his affection for the team. He’s contacted the team before to show his support. Even the Panthers use his catchphrase as a rallying call.

But now it has soured on the Panthers.

And worst of all, the fans have realized that Flair is cheering for the team that the Panthers are set to face. They went to Twitter to express their anger.

Some found comedy in it:

Stylin’ & profilin’!

So what’s the deal? Was it just because Flair was possibly paid lots of money to speak for the 49ers that he did it? Or does Flair really want the 49ers to win? What about his hometown team?

Either way, we have a non-story that’s going to be fun to follow. Even ESPN has a piece about it.

You can catch Flair on Monday Night Raw tonight as the show goes old school. Maybe he’ll address this issue. WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
