Islanders going back to Gorton’s Fisherman look for one more night

For one last time, the Islanders will bring back Gorton’s Fisherman.

As a kid just starting to learn about the game of hockey, I had some trading cards. I remember my first exposure to the New York Islanders was the Gorton’s Fisherman look. Even though the identity lasted only two seasons, that to me is what the Islanders are to me.

Yes, the identity was terrible. Yes the colors were so 90s. But it was unique. It didn’t make sense. But I loved it. I wish the team kept it a little longer.

Well, it looks like the memory isn’t gone forever. With the Islanders celebrating their final season at Nassau, they will wear that ugly logo one last time.

I want a part of this. Even something as simple with the logo on a cap, I want to have something with this logo. There’s a part of me that just longs to have that one nostalgic moment. Just a time where something so bad could be considered good enough to outfit a professional team.

Thank you, Isles, for letting me be on the boat one last time.
