If you haven’t heard the news, the A’s are using a new song to play during postgame high-fives. For many years, the team has played “Celebration” by Kool and the Gang.

It’s a great song to play after a win and fans love it. It’s no exclusive as other teams use it, but for the A’s, it’s been a staple for many years.

After Monday’s win, the A’s were giving high-fives to a new song by Oakland-based band The Phenomenauts.

The team has said that they’re test-running the new song and if the reaction isn’t favorable, they might go back to the old song.

I have no problem with change. I only have problem when change is made when it is unnecessary. There was no reason to change the song. It felt like that it was change for the sake of change. And I’ll be honest, this new song isn’t even that good.

Sure, it’s great to have a local band’s song versus a generic song. But when the generic song fits better than the local band, you go with the better choice.

Now if the new song was a better song, maybe I wouldn’t be upset about the change. After all, there are a lot of great local artists that can lend their music for the postgame music. How about some Mistah FAB or E-40?

As of right now, the solution should have come down to a vote. Ask fans to vote for what song they want with several options. If fans want to keep “Celebration,” then that should stay. If fans vote for something else, that becomes the new song.
