Remember last year when MLB and New Era agreed to make their batting practice caps with the 59FIFTY model? It was well-received and I was a fan of it. But was this just a one-year thing.

According to New Era’s United Kingdom site (and not on the USA site) they are reintroducing the 39THIRTY model for batting practice and spring training along with upcoming regular season games. Check out their page right here.

Not only that, but there are several teams with different designs. Check out the description of these caps.

This original Diamond Era technology has been carefully applied to New Era’s authentic 39THIRTY silhouette across all MLB teams. The unique collection will be worn by baseball players during Spring Training and Batting Practice for regular season games in the US.

The Diamond Era collection features different logos and/or color combinations worn by MLB clubs, providing fans with exciting new looks for their favorite club.

The Diamond Era collection will be worn by all MLB clubs throughout the entire 2014 baseball season, starting with the Spring Training season and during Batting Practice.

With that description, that means the 59FIFTY for batting practice and spring training is no more.

This comes as a surprise since these photos of the new batting practice caps have surfaced recently.

It’s very strange that the New Era logo is on the side of the cap as official game-used caps never feature the manufacturer’s logo. Plus giving it the name “Reverse” suggests that it’s just a special edition cap. However, the description says it will be used for MLB games and worn by MLB teams.

Was this a mistake in the description or are we going to be introduced to new caps one year after their last big unveil? All signs point to this just being a fashion cap, but the description does say otherwise.
